Bringing BF Learning to Customer Care 2 Years, 11 Months ago Karma: 0
I'm bringing Brain Friendly Learning to a couple of Customer Champion courses I'm running at the end of the month. Has anyone got any good examples of customer suggestions / complaints being hadnled really well and resulting in good customer care practice / customer retention / a great story? Thank you.

Hi Ann,
I really love the story of the man who bought a new BMW. He'd specifically asked for the ashtray to be taken out and replaced with a coin holder - a small detail but really important to him.
After several weeks the shiny new BMW was delivered to him but to his dismay the ashtray was still in place, no coin holder. He rang the dealership straight away and was told he'd need to bring the car into them for "someone to have a look". He wasn't too happy about this as the dealership was 100 miles away and the attitude from the call handler was less than helpful. Disgruntled he called a well known directory enquiries service to see if he could find a more local BMW garage. They put him through to a number and when his call was answered he launched straight into his story once again, becoming more agitated as his frustration and disappointment reached new depths! At the end of his rant, a polite young man expressed his sympathy but then explained that his call had come through to a Lexus garage in the next city by mistake. The customer hung up in despair. He rang the original BMW dealer and, in defeat agreed to bring the car on the weekend for "someone to have a look"...
About 30 minutes later his doorbell rang. A young man in garage overalls was on the door step with a big smile and, more importantly, a coin holder! Before the customer could say anything, the young man said, "With the compliments of Lexus, sir. Would you like me to fit this for you?"

Hi Holly

Thanks for that - really great!

Not only was it a fab story to use on my Customer Service courses last week; it's also confirmed my partner's decision to opt for a Lexus through his company car scheme! So spreading a positive word definitely helps a company's bottom line!
